Stuttgart’s early goal ends Bremen’s run
VfB Stuttgart needed only seven minutes to make the difference. Maximilian Mittelstädt’s finish delivered a 1-0 win over Werder Bremen at the MHP-Arena and ended the visitors’ seven-game unbeaten streak in the Bundesliga. The result also gave Stuttgart consecutive league victories for the first time this season. A narrow scoreline, but a meaningful shift in momentum.
Stuttgart made three changes after their UEFA Champions League defeat to Galatasaray. Dennis Seimen and Luca Jaquez returned to the starting eleven, while Yanik Spalt made his full Bundesliga debut. Bremen coach Daniel Thioune also reshuffled his side, selecting Eren Dinkçi and Senne Lynen in place of Chuki and the injured Mitchell Weiser.
The opening goal came from a simple, well-timed move. Grischa Prömel found room on the right side of the penalty area and rolled the ball across goal; Mittelstädt, arriving unmarked at the far post, struck first time into the roof of the net. It was his second Bundesliga goal of the season.
Stuttgart remained the more threatening side before the break. Bilal El Khannouss drew a sharp save from Karl Hein, and Jeff Chabot sent a corner header just wide. Bremen’s unbeaten run was under pressure early, and the visitors went into half-time trailing.

Mittelstädt strikes early
An early lead gave Stuttgart control of the game’s first half, though it didn’t settle the contest. Bremen had arrived in good league form, and the hosts’ inability to add a second left the outcome open.

Bremen threaten, but Stuttgart hold on
Stuttgart’s 1-0 win was tighter than the scoreline suggests. Werder Bremen created the sharper chances after the break: Eren Dinkçi tested Dennis Seimen, then Youri Regeer was put through by Niclas Füllkrug but couldn’t beat the goalkeeper one-on-one.
Stuttgart nearly gave themselves breathing room when Maximilian Mittelstädt met a rehearsed corner routine. His shot struck the post after Karl Hein got a touch. Bremen kept coming, with substitutes Justin Njinmah and Chuki adding pressure; Finn Jeltsch made a decisive block to stop Njinmah. Stuttgart saw out the match, earning consecutive Bundesliga wins for the first time this season and ending Bremen’s unbeaten run.

Mittelstädt makes the difference
The match’s defining moment came in the seventh minute: Mittelstädt struck first time, sending the ball into the roof of the net. He later hit the post with another attempt from inside the area, and took 59 percent of the vote to earn Man of the Match.
That recognition fits the result, though the numbers point to a more complicated performance. Stuttgart recorded 0.78 xGoals to Bremen’s 1.68, while Mittelstädt’s goal had an 11 percent probability of being scored. Bremen’s Eren Dinkçi was the fastest player at 34.4 km/h; Hein led the pass efficiency measure with 5.78.
