Bayern Munich's Ismael Saibari undergoes ankle surgery, Serge Gnabry suffers thigh injury

Bayern Munich have confirmed that Ismael Saibari and Serge Gnabry are set for spells on the sidelines after being forced off in the first half of Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Klassiker rivals Borussia Dortmund.

Saibari, who suffered a partial tear of a ligament in his right ankle following a first-half collision with Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, has already undergone “successful surgery”.

Gnabry, meanwhile, injured a muscle at the back of his left thigh, forcing him to leave the field just two minutes after Saibari.

Watch: Bayern 2-2 Dortmund

Bayern have not put a timeframe on the duo’s recovery, but the champions expect to be without both Saibari and Gnabry “for the time being”.

The Bavarians were pegged back twice by Dortmund on Saturday evening, taking the lead through Konrad Laimer in the first half and Dayot Upamecano in the second.

But goals from Serhou Guirassy and Fabio Silva earned Borussia a point, with newly crowned Ballon d’Or winner Harry Kane also missing a second-half penalty with the score at 1-0.
