Arsenal are reportedly about to move a step closer to securing the signing of Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes. The Brazil international has been heavily linked with a move away from St James’ Park, with the Gunners mentioned as the most likely destination.
The 28-year-old remains under contract at Newcastle until the summer of 2028, and there has been speculation for several weeks that Arsenal could make an official bid to try and bring Guimaraes to the Emirates Stadium.
Midfield has been an area of the squad that Arsenal are looking to bring in reinforcements this summer, and now there has been a fresh update on their pursuit of Guimaraes.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Arsenal are expected to make an offer exceeding £70million in an attempt to sign Guimaraes in the coming weeks.
The report suggests that the Gunners will conduct further negotiations with Newcastle regarding a prospective agreement for the Brazilian within the next few days, with Arsenal already understood to have reached personal terms with the player.
It has additionally been stated that the resolution surrounding whether or not Guimaraes becomes an Arsenal player will hinge on whether or not Newcastle will approve a departure, alongside what valuation they would place on the player.
The development follows reports that surfaced on social media claiming that Arsenal had lodged a bid exceeding £80m in an effort to secure Guimaraes' services.
However, ChronicleLive has reported that no such offer was submitted by Arsenal, with it also emerging that the Gunners would be unwilling to meet an £80m asking price to prise Guimaraes away from Tyneside.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe recently spoke out about the mounting speculation surrounding Guimaraes' future at the club, amid reports that the midfielder has signalled his desire to depart St James' Park this summer.
"I have spoken to him normally as I would do,” Howe told ChronicleLive.
"Bruno is a fantastic person and we had some really good conversations before and during the World Cup and after the World Cup.
"What we speak about has to remain private. He is a great player and a great person."
Howe then added: "Look I don't know what is going to happen with Bruno's future, that is for other people to speculate about.
"But also conversations that I'm not part of."
