The 59-year-old has signed an initial four-year contract, beginning on 15 August 2026 and running through to 2030, taking over following Germany's shock round of 32 exit to Paraguay at the FIFA World Cup 2026 and Nagelsmann's subsequent departure.
"The national team can unite us Germans better than anything else. That's what makes this role so special for me," said Klopp, who stepped down as Liverpool coach in May 2024 before joining Red Bull GmbH as Head of Global Soccer in January 2025.
"I'm grateful for everything I got to experience and learn over the last 18 months with Red Bull. Now I'm excited for this special role in German football, which we'll approach with humility and patience, developing a team that fights for each other, enjoys playing football and that the people in our country can fully get behind."
